American Girl Glam Party Success!

April 22, 2016

Today was the big day for Little Miss S’ American Girl Glam Party.   We held the party at the community center in a teeny tiny town, not far from our house.  We were lucky enough to be able to decorate the night before and boy am I glad we did.  It was nice to not feel rushed and take our time.  On the other hand, I could have stayed all night adding little details.  Thank goodness Mr. Husband would not let me obsess all night about the details.  Granted there was a lot of teasing about the polka dots not being straight, but hey, that’s what you get with free labor.

As the girls entered the party we gave them a hairdresser apron.  I picked these up at Hobby Lobby and Little Miss helped design a logo for her salon.  We printed the logo onto each apron and the girls all had matching aprons.  We let the party guests take those home after the party.  I really wish I had gotten a group photo of all the girls, but that did not happen!  Ugh!  Kicking myself.

The main focus of the party was the Doll Salon.  We put that table in the middle of the room and worked the other stations around the perimeter of the room.  This set up worked great.  I brought in the rugs from my classroom and we placed them on either side of the salon table.  In hind sight, we should have put the rugs together on one side of the table because the girls naturally wanted to work on the floor and they ended up squeezing onto one rug so they could sit by together.  Mrs. Grandma made salon capes for each of the dolls (I know, WOW!)  She is also the same woman that made my “teacher” jumper dresses when I started teaching (don’t judge, it was cool) and she made the jumpers with all kinds of fun prints that kids would like.  She actually had some of that fabric left over and made the salon capes out of it.  AWESOME SAUCE!  The puppy capes went quickly (heads up if you want to do something similar).

We had a nail station AND a hair station.  The girls could get their nails painted, hair curled, crimped, streaked with color or add a colorful braid (or all of the above)!  The girls were in heaven!!!!!  We had some very stylish kiddos emerge from these stations and a huge shout out to the “cool teenagers” for helping get our party guests GLAM!

We also had a face painting station.  One of my former students does the most incredible job with face paints.  Once I saw her work I knew I had to incorporate face painting into this party.  And… the girls went CRAZY for it.  It was the perfect touch to a glam party.

Another station that girls got to do was make a t-shirt for their doll.  I set out doll t-shirts (cheap from Amazon) and fabric markers (I used the Crayola ones I found on Amazon).  The girls designed a t-shirt for their doll and got a doll tutu to go with the t shirt.  SUPER CUTE!
Another station we had was a photo booth.  I hung fun fabric and had baskets of props.  We used clown noses, crowns, boas, and lots of fun stick pictures to pose with.

Here’s some snapshots of the girls in action.  They were very busy the entire time and I think everyone had a great time.  I know I did!  And by the looks of it, so did Mr. Husband.

I would love to hear your questions or comments!
